Bengaluru, Feb 29: As per certain reports, National Green Tribunal (NGT) is likely to impose a fine of between Rs 100 and 120 crore on the city-based Art of Living Foundation. This amount is proposed to be levied towards the damage a programme scheduled to be held between March 11 and 13 by the foundation on the banks of River Yamuna near New Delhi.
The stage under construction for the proposed programme covers seven acres of land. Various other works like parking, seating arrangement for the audience etc have also been undertaken at the proposed site. A report prepared by a committee chaired by Shashishekhar, secretary in the department of water resources, says that the river and its banks would suffer extensive damage due to the said programme. The committee has also estimated the cost of damage control and restoration exercises at Rs 100 to 120 crore.
The committee also has suggested to collect the above cost from the organizers of the said programme in advance before its commencement. Reports said that the NGT is likely to accept this report and ask Art of Living Foundation and meet this cost.
