Mangaluru, Feb 21: “The counting of votes on Tuesday, February 23 will be observed as dry day as per the direction of election commission for the peaceful counting process. Victory processions on the particular day will be prohibited,” said deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim while addressing the press meet at his office on Sunday February 21.
In all, 69.16% voters in Dakshina Kannada turned out to exercise their franchise in taluk and zilla panchayat polls held on Saturday February 20.
“Out of 10,06,212 voters, 7,34,575 voters took part in the elections. In which, 68% male and 69% female voters from the district cast their votes. There was 2% increase of votes in taluk and zilla panchayat polls in comparison to polls in 2010.”
“17 EVMs in taluk panchayat and ten EVMs zilla panchayat and 11 EVM control units were replaced due to technical errors in the district. The complete election process went peacefully in entire district and there was no poll code violation reported.”
"Counting of votes will be done on Tuesday February 23. At around 8 am the counting process will start in all five taluks of the district. A total of 244 tables and 244 election officers will be deployed for the counting the votes in all five taluks,” he added.
