Udupi, Feb 19: Kannimane Ganapathi Bhat (47), who was being idolized and his style was followed a large number of young and emerging Yakshagana artistes from Badaguthittu, passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday February 18. He is survived by wife, a son, and a daughter.
Bhat belonged to Mugwa village in Honnavar taluk, Uttara Kannada district. He used to don leading characters or characters which depicted adventure and valour in different episodes. He has introduced his own style of presentation in his acts, which were liked and followed by many youngster.
Kannimane, who was unwell since long, was being treated in a private hospital at Mangaluru, but was shifted to a private hospital at Bengaluru on Wednesday evening after his health condition turned worse. His end came on Thursday evening.
Kannimane had been residing at Manipal since sometime. His more popular roles were of Lord Krishna in 'Garudi' episode, Srinivasa of 'Srinivasa Kalyana' etc. He had served a number of Yakshagana troupes including Saligrama, Perdoor, and Mandarthi. In spite of his failing health, he had played the role of Krishna in 'Chandravali' episode at Manipal last year.
A large number of artists,dignitaries, and fans of Bhat have grieved the untimely demise of a great artiste.
