Udupi, Feb 16: Shankarapura parish team won the ‘United Christians Cricket trophy-2016’ organized by Kadosh Revival ministries and Bethel Pentecostal Church at Christian PU College ground, Mission compound Udupi.
Yashpal Suvarna, president, undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Fish Marketing Federation Udupi, along with other guests inaugurated the event by releasing the colourful balloons on Saturday, February 13.
Addressing the gathered, Yashpal said, “As in the previous years, this year also the association organized the cricket tournament to unite Christian youngsters and gave them a platform to exhibit their cricketing talents. The work done by the association was commendable. In future, the group should extend such activities to other communities and organize state level cricket tournament.”
The tournament began with invocation by Pastor Gopinath, New life Udupi. Rayappa, chief municipal officer Karnataka, Stevan Sarvotham, president, Jayaraj Franklin, Pastor Paulos and others were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Shankarapura parish team defeated Entine ministry, Udyavar in the league match. St Antony Church, Kuntalnagar defeated UBM Ebilezer Malpe in the semi-final. In the final match, Shankarapura parish team defeated St Antony Church, Kuntalnagar.
The winning team got a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and trophy and runners-up got a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and trophy.
Shailesh D’silva of St John Church Shankarpur bagged the man of the match and man of the series, Rony, UBM Malpe and Jesan Sequera bagged best bowlers prize.
Pastor Joseph Jamakandi, Bethel church Ajjarkad presided over the valedictory ceremony.
Br Sadanand Kanchan UBM, district secretary, Saroja Margret, correspondent, Bethel School, Glen, Pastor Stephan Jamakhandi, organizer, Pundaleek, sub registrar officer, Pastor Yesu father and others were present during the prize distribution.
Reni Fernandese, Brother Prabhakar Ammana, Brother Pundaleek were felicitated by group for their contribution.
A live Gospel singing competition was organized on the occasion. Pastor Anil, Karishma and Ida Anchan occupied first, second and third place respectively in the event.
Manju Dighi compered the programme.
