Puttur, Feb 16: After a truck hit a Honda Activa two-wheeler near the petrol bunk at Addahole near Nelyady on national highway 75 on Monday February 15 evening, the rider of the two-wheeler was killed on the spot. In this accident, a woman riding the pillion suffered serious injuries.
Ibrahim (27), a resident of Sakleshpur, died in the accident, while his younger sister, Safiya (24), survived with serious injuries. Safiya stands admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru.
The scooter rider was wearing a helmet, but the force of the accident so strong that it got smashed into pieces, and the rider suffered deadly injuries to his head.
The truck bearing Andhra Pradesh registration number which caused the accident fled from the scene. Some people from Gundia, who came to know about the incident, immediately chased the truck, intercepted it near Maranahalli near Sakleshpur, and brought the driver and cleaner along with the vehicle back to the spot of the accident. Both were then handed over to Uppinangady police.
It is gathered that the brother-sister duo was going to the house of theirr relatives at Puttur from Sakleshpur, when the accident occurred after they negotiated the ghat section of the road. Safiya was transported to Mangaluru by a private ambulance service from Nelyady.
