Buenos Aires, Feb 15 (IANS): Young Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem won the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Buenos Aires tournament, defeating Spaniard Nicolas Almagro.
The World No.19 who knocked out fifth seed Rafael Nadal of Spain, won 7-6 (2), 3-6 and 7-6 (4) after two hours and 28 minutes on Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club's clay on Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The 22-year-old has obtained his first title in 2016 and the fourth in his career after winning in Gstaad (Switzerland), Umag (Croatia) and Nice (France) on the same surface in 2015.
With this victory, Thiem put a stop to Spain's reign in the tournament as a Spaniard has won the tournament for the past seven years.
