Tokyo, Feb 15 (IANS): Tokyo shares opened trading on Monday higher as investors' sentiment was spurred by gains in the Wall Street and upbeat US retail sales data.
At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average sky rocketed 644.90 points, or 4.31 percent, from Friday to 15,597.51, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 61.35 points, or 5.13 percent, to 1, 257.63.
