Sullia,Feb 10: A person from Todikana in the taluk, who had gone into the forest with some relatives on hunting trip, lost his life as he was hit by a bullet that was meant for an animal. This tragic incident occurred on the night of Tuesday February 9.
The deceased has been identified as Jayaram Naik Kudrepaya. He was serving as supervisor-cum-writer for a plantation at Todikana owned by Kudekallu Vasudva Gowda. After Gowda bought the plantation from its earlier owner, Gopalakrishna Vailaya, he had appointed Jayaram as its supervisor, reports said.
On Wednesday morning, lifeless body of Jayaram Naik was found lying in the plantation for which he worked. It is gathered that those who accompanied him during the hunting trip into the forest accounted for his life inadvertently.
P M Harish, Venugopal Kudrepaya and Deekshit, said to be relatives of Jayaram, had accompanied him into the forest for hunting down animals on Tuesday night. It it said that a bullet that was mistakenly fired at a spot from where a sound was emanating happened to hit Jayaram, killing him instantly. The others accompanying him developed cold feet, carried Jayaram's body back at night, and left after placing it in the plantation where he worked.
The policemen rushed to the spot after coming to know about the murder. It is gathered that the accused companions of the deceased have been arrested and are being interrogated.
