Wipro wins multi-year deal from Swedish firm

Bengaluru, Feb 8 (IANS): Global software major Wipro Ltd on Monday announced it has won a five-year IT infrastructure management deal from Assa Abloy group, a Swedish major in door opening solutions.

"The contract envisages consolidating Abloy's data centres in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) region and implementing a cloud-based service model, including infrastructure as a service and platform as a service," the IT major said in a statement here.

The outsourcing major, however, did not disclose the value of the deal or projected revenue from a major win for this fiscal (2015-16).

The $6.7-billion international group operates in 70 countries the world over with 44,000 employees following its expansion through organic growth and acquisitions.

"The engagement with Wipro is strategic to our business continuity operations. With Wipro's support to our data centre infrastructure, we can drive efficiencies and bring about joint innovations to serve our customers better," Abloy chief information officer Jens Nielson said.

Wipro's data centre will also provide a suite of IT infrastructure management services to Abloy's global operations.

"Our solutions will have an IT service model with a user-friendly service catalogue for agility in its operations," Wipro's Nordic region head Carl-Henrick Halltrom said in the statement.
