Kundapur: Serial accident near Tekkatte - One killed, three injured

Kundapur, Feb 3: A serial accident which occurred near Karikalkatte near Tekkatte in the taluk on the evening of Tuesday February 2 evening accounted for the life of the motor bike rider.

The accident occured when the bike ridden by Raghavendra Bhat (40), a resident of Mooduhadu village in Yadabettu, Sastan, was hit by a car, which then hit a tanker. While Bhat died, his sister Vani (34), who was riding pillion, suffered serious injuries. Two others were also injured in this accident, and the car and two-wheeler in question got smashed beyond recognition.

The others injured in the accident were seated in the car. They have been identified as Naveen (26),who was driving the car, and Manjunath (32), passenger. While Vani was rushed to Manipal hospital, those in the car, whose condition is said to be critical, were taken to a hospital at Koteshwar nearby for treatment.

The accident occurred in front of Indraprastha Hotel on national lhighway 66 at around 4.30 pm. When a motor bike rider took a U-turn opposite Indraprastha Hotel and entered the national highway, it suddenly came face to face with a car that was speeding in the opposite direction, taking the car driver by surprise. The car driver, in an attempt to avoid the accident, jumped over the divider, and the car continued to move. against the traffic flow. Thecar continued to move for 150 metres, and hit the motor bike driven by Raghavendra Bhat towards Tekkatte from Kota. The car then hit a tanker, resulting in serious injuries to both the occupants of the car.

Although Raghavendra was wearing a helmet, he died on the spot. However, the accident would have given rise to disastrous consequences, had the tanker carrying sulfuric acid caught fire. Policemen and locals therefore moved the tanker aside as a precautionary measure. A case stands filed in Kota police station about this accident.
