Mangaluru: DC Ibrahim briefs on ZP/TP elections

Mangaluru, Jan 30: “The process for the upcoming taluk and zilla panchayat election will start from Monday February 1, and February 8th will be the last date to file the nomination. The filed nominations will be scrutinized on February 9th. The candidates who wish to withdraw their nomination can do so on February 11,” said deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim while addressing the press meet at his office on Saturday January 30. 

Speaking further about the nomination and polling, he said, “There will be 1,166 polling centres in the district. The candidate who files nomination for the ZP elections should be an eligible voter from Dakshina Kannada. The candidate who files nomination for taluk election should be the voter of the respective taluk. There will 14 election officers. The candidates can file the nomination in the respective taluk centre with the election officers/ assistant election officers.” 

The casting of vote will be done in electronic voting machine. There is a symbol for NOTA. Candidate for ZP can spend rupees 1,000,00 and Taluk Panchayath Rs 50,000 as the election expensive. 

Speaking about the DC complex at Padil, he said, “Government has sanctioned Rs 41 crore to construct DC complex in 5.89 acre land. The administration has already asked Karnataka Housing Board to construct the building. Now it is in tender process.” 

Replying to the environmentalists who are opposing the construction of DC office, he said, “We have 11 acres of land but the proposed DC office will be built in only 5.8 acre land in which building complex will come in 70 cents of land. The district administration is concerned about environment and will not harm it in the process of building the office.”
