Bengaluru, Jan 28: The deadline set for filing of nomination papers for the three assembly constituencies in the state which will go to bypoll shortly, ended on Wednesday January 27. At the end of the process, 39 candidates have filed 66 sets of nomination papers for Hebbal, Bidar, and Devadurga constituencies.
Hebbal has witnessed the highest number of aspirants with 24 candidates. Bidar with 11 nominations and Devadurga with four, are at a distant second and third positions. Nomination papers are being scrutinized on Thursday. January 30 happens to be the last day for the withdrawal of nominations. On that day, a clear picture will emerge as to who will vie for the three vacant assembly seats.
Leading candidates who filed nominations on the last day are C K Abdul Rehman Sharief, who is the grandson of Jaffer Sharief from the Congress, MLC, Y A Narayanaswamy from BJP, and Ismail Shariff Nana from the JDS.
In Hebbal, four sets of nomination papers were submitted by Congress and BJP candidates, while JDS candidate submitted three sets. In Bidar too BJP and Congress candidates filed four sets of papers each. In Devadurga, Congress candidate submitted three sets, BJP candidate submitted two sets, and JDS candidate, four sets.
