Mangaluru, Jan 9: The new campus of Prestige International School at Jappinamogaru here was inaugurated by chancellor of Nitte University N Vinay Hegde in a grand ceremony. MLA of Mangaluru south constituency J R Lobo hoisted the school flag.
In his inaugural address, Vinay Hegde said, "It is more important to be a good human rather than a Hindu or a Muslim. This school has state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities and I am sure that it will produce men and women who are assets to the nation."
MLA J R Lobo explained the importance of school in a person's life and said, "A school is a national asset. It increases the instrinsic value of the country through its service. Establishing a school is a big achievement. It not only imparts education but moulds the personality of the student. I wish good luck to the managing director of the institution Hyder Ali."
MLC Ivan D'Souza also congratulated the founders of the school and said, "When a student gets 98%, his parents do not congratulate him on scoring that percentage, rather they question the student for not scoring the remaining 2%. This should not happen. We must let the students achieve merit without any pressure. I feel proud to be part of this district which has so many institutions," he said.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim also spoke on the occasion and stressed on the importance of discipline in one's life. "Along with education, discipline must be taught to the students. If any work is done in a disciplined way, it bears fruit. I request the MD of the institution to reserve at least 10% of the seats for the economically backward students."
Mangaluru Urban Development Authority chairman Kodijal Ibrahim referring to the words of Sarvajna said, "The students need to respect their elders. They should be taught to live in peace and harmony with people of all religions. This is the need of the hour."
Managing director of the institution Hyder Ali welcomed the gathering while the school's head boy Ziyad rendered the vote of thanks.
Achievers were felicitated on the occasion. A colourful cultural programme was another highlight.
Sahil Zaheer compered the programme.
