Tokyo stocks advance in early trading


Tokyo, Dec 30 (IANS): Tokyo stocks advanced in early trading on Wednesday, as US and European stocks closing higher overnight lifted the market mood here.

As of 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 100.68 points, or 0.53 percent, from Tuesday to 19,082.91, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 8.92 points, or 0.58 percent, at 1,552.31, Xinhua reported.

Early advancers comprised mining, pulp and paper, and iron and steel-linked stocks.
