Mumbai, Dec 29 (IANS): A day after it closed at highest levels in nearly four weeks, a barometer index of the Indian equity markets gained 56 points during the early morning trade session on Tuesday.
The barometer 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading higher by 56 points, or 0.21 percent, during the early morning session.
However, the wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading flat. It was marginally higher by 3.70 points, or 0.05 percent, at 7,928.85 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,075.68 points, was trading at 26,089.89 points (at 9.35 p.m.) -- up 56 points, or 0.21 percent, from the previous day's close at 26034.13 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 26,133.78 points and a low of 26,065.08 points during the intra-day trade.
The Sensex had closed the previous session on December 28, up 195.42 points, or 0.76 percent, while the Nifty was higher by 64.10 points, or 0.82 percent.
