If given notice BCCI will answer ICL in court

Mumbai, Aug 25: Reacting cautiously to the news that the rebel Indian Cricket League has taken recourse to the precincts of the Delhi High Court to stop the Cricket Board from "intimidating" players for joining the ICL, the BCCI said it will react in a fitting manner as and when required.
"What you say is news to me (that ICL has filed a petition against BCCI in the Delhi High court). If they (ICL) have gone to court and if we are sent a notice, then in that case we will attend the court and say what we want to," BCCI Vice President Shashank Manohar told PTI from Nagpur.

The development seems to have caught the BCCI by surprise going by the reaction of one of its top officials and legal experts.

The lawsuit filed by ICL in the Delhi HC sought a direction to the BCCI to allow ICL to use stadia across the country for its tournaments.

It said the pensions given by BCCI to former players should not be stopped in the event they join the ICL.

ICL has also sought that BCCI should be restrained from using Indian flag and name of the country as it was accepted by the Board before the Supreme Court that it was a private body.

The newly formed parellel cricket body by Essel Group wanted that no players should be intimidated by the BCCI for playing with the ICL.

Sad day for Indian cricket ! If the news is true then I think ICL has defeated its own purpose. No sensible sports lover wants any problems solved in the court of law and there are any number of learned men to solve these issues out of the corridors of the law courts. No doubt that the Essel Group is financially well off but they should not flex their muscles in such a manner. Everyone knows that the BCCI is the sole body responsible for all cricket in India and there was every scope for a meeting of the bigwigs from the rival groups to sort out the issues.

There are minor problems in all sports in India. The Indian Hockey affairs for that matter are not on good grounds at the moment but still there is no battle fought in the courts. Better sense should prevail especially when it comes to sporting problems. The former cricketers who are now associated with the ICL should remember that they have all gained prominence, prosperity and publicity only because BCCI looked after them earlier. They should re think and return back to their parent body if they feel that the recent actions of ICL are detrimental to everyone concerned with the game.

One hopes that the Delhi High Court hits everyone concerned for a might six and sends them out of their premises promptly!
