Kolkata, Dec 17 (IANS): Legendary tabla player Shankar Ghosh is still in coma although his other vitals are fine, his family members said on Thursday.
"Prayers, wishes and love pouring in for Baba (Shankar Ghosh) from across the globe. We need him to find his way back. As everyone knows, he's a fighter," his son Bickram Ghosh, a noted percussionist, posted on Facebook.
He is under treatment at a private hospital following heart complications. On Monday, his condition further deteriorated. He was under constant observation in the ICU and slipped into coma on Wednesday.
The 80-year-old exponent of the Farrukhabad gharana of Hindustani classical music underwent an angioplasty at the hospital, where he was admitted three days ago.
A recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1999-2000, Ghosh has taken forward the concept of tabla ensembles -- large number of tabla players showcasing their talent together.
He has toured a number of countries to play solo or with celebrated classical musicians like sitarists Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan and violinist Pandit V.G. Jog and earned rave reviews.
