Panaji, Dec 6: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday December 6 compared Sangh's founder chief K B Hedgewar to the Father of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar.
December 6 is the death anniversary of Ambedkar who drafted India's Constitution.
"Both the great leaders had dedicated their lives to built a good country," Bhagwat said addressing public event in Goa today comparing both the belated leaders.
"He (Hedgewar) left back a cadre of followers who are ready to even give up their life for the country," the RSS chief said.
"During pre-Independence time though the education had the impression of British many who learnt through mother tongue came forward to set free the nation from slavery," he said.
"Ambedkar freed several of his community members from slavery. He did a great job. He struggled to obtain education. While studying abroad he lived on just a cup of coffee and two slices of bread. He used his knowledge for the country not for his personal benefit," Bhagwat narrated.
"Also, Hedgewar participated in all the patriotic moments including Vande Mataram agitation through schools in Nagpur. The British closed down the schools for four months and they were started after tripartite agreement with the schools," he said.
"Hedgewar refused to apologise and was rusticated from school. He studied in a private school. He went on to become a doctor. He was offered a job but he refused it and decided to live his life for the country," Bhagwat added.
"The one who thinks only about himself is worse than animal. We should think about society," he remarked.
"Biologically if you see, even human being is an animal. But human has thinking power. We have never seen animals committing suicide because of famine," the RSS chief said.
Bhagwat was speaking during the opening of Dr K B Hedgewar school complex near Panaji.
