Plugging leaks in urea subsidy: Modi

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said attempts were on to plug the leaks in subsidy worth Rs.80,000 crore on urea to ensure it was used only for farming.

"We are trying to plug leaks in subsidy worth Rs.80,000 crore on urea so that only farmers benefit," Modi said here at the inaugural of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2015.

"We are coating 100 percent neem over urea. After that, urea cannot be used as a raw material in chemical industries and will not be stolen.

"This will help farmers as urea is a basic need for agricultural economy."
