Mangaluru, Nov 15: ‘EDU-PATH: Career Guidance – 2015’ was held on Sunday, November 15 at Expert PU College Campus, Valachil. Apart from students of both Kodialbail and Valachil campuses of Expert PU College, students from other PU colleges in and around Mangaluru also took part in this unique programme.
Prof Ravivarma Kumar, former advocate general, Govt of Karnataka, Bengaluru inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, Prof Kumar applauded Expert College for pouring out time and energy to educate and serve the students.
He considered students who took part in this programme lucky, as they are guided by luminaries to make the right choice in life. Echoing the words of the renowned scientist Stephen Hawking, he urged the students to excel in whatever they do and advised them not to leave any work unfinished. He shared anecdotes on Savitribai Phule, Marie Curie and Malala Yousafzai and exhorted the students to emulate their lives.
Prof Dr K Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University presided over the programme. In his remarks, Prof Byrappa stressed the importance of determination, discipline and dedication, in accomplishing the goals of life. He felt that students should read the autobiographies of great scientists and achievers in order to make the best use of opportunities that come their way.
Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation, in his introductory remarks, traced the success story of career guidance programme which is being organized every year, consecutively, for the last 23 years. He also clarified that at Expert, career guidance is not just a one-day event, as Expert students are kept well-informed of career choices, throughout the year, in the form of interactions with exam-toppers and experienced resource persons.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by six sessions wherein eminent academicians made presentations and interacted with students.
Prof Dr Lakshman Nandagiri, Dept of Applied Mechanics and Hydrology, NITK, Surathkal presented the first session titled ‘Introduction to various branches of Engineering: Mechanical, Computer Science, Chemical, Civil, Architectural, Metallurgy and Mining’.
Prof K R Kamath, formerly HOD of Electronics & Communication, NITK, Surathkal presented the second session titled ‘Electronics, Communication, Telecommunication, Instrumentation & Bio-technology’.
Prof K V Gangadharan, Dept of Mechanical Engg NITK, Surathkal presented the third session titled ‘Admission into NITs’.
Prof Harish Bhat, vice principal, Ramakrishna PU College, Mangaluru presented the fourth session titled ‘How to prepare for Board Exams / CET / COMEDK and other All India Level Competitive Examinations’.
Dr M Mohan Pai, Professor of Medicine, KMC, Mangaluru presented the fifth session titled ‘Medical Practice as a Profession’.
Dr G G Laxman Prabhu, Professor of Urology, KMC, Mangaluru presented the sixth session titled ‘Making of a Doctor’.
Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman of Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation and Ushaprabha N. Nayak, secretary & correspondent of Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation presented mementos to the guests and resource persons.
Prof Dr NK Vijayan, Principal of Expert PU College, Valachil welcomed the gathering while Prof Ramachandra Bhat, Principal of Expert PU College, Kodiabail proposed the vote of thanks.
Druthi V Hegde and Sheryl Florence D' Souza, faculty, Chemistry department compered the programme.
