Mangalore, Aug 7: Central Market Merchants' Association has decided to observe day-long bundh in all the municipal markets across Mangalore on Monday August 13 to urge the state government not to allow Reliance and Birla to set up outlets of wholesale and retail trade in city. The Association expressed its fears that the conglomerates would drastically affect the livelihood of majority of petty traders who were engaged in this trade for the past many years. The protest rally will be held from Central Market till the deputy commissioner's office at 11 am, while the memorandum will be submitted to DC.
Central Market Merchants' Association president, K Shashidaran, founder chief secretary Haji Hameed Kandak, treasurer Badruddin, Suratkal Old Market Merchants Association president Mohammed Sharief, Jeppu Market president Parameshwar Shetty, Karangalpady Market president Thomas Lobo were present at the press conference.
