Panaji, Aug 6: While all eyes are set on supreme court’s decision on August 6, the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) has fears of further misuse of speaker’s power by the Congress to retain power in Goa.

"We apprehend that the Congress will try to disqualify two more members of Goa Democratic Alliance, further altering the numbers in the state legislative assembly,’’ BJP Goa spokesman Govind Parvatkar said.

Goa government is facing turbulent times with its alliance partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party withdrawing the support during last week of July. The floor test conducted to prove majority of Digamber Kamat government witnessed speaker Pratapsingh Rane debarring three legislators, including two from MGP and a dissident Congress legislator Victoria Fernandes, from voting on the floor of the house.

All three legislators have knocked the door of the Supreme Court which has adjourned the case to August 6. The Goa Democratic alliance, a BJP-led front, has also filed a petition seeking dismissal of Kamat-led government, which, according to them has "run into minority.’’

"The speaker is acting in a partisan manner and we can expect him to go totally out of the way to protect the government,’’ Parvatkar said citing the discussion in the Congress legislative party to file a disqualification petition against two more GDA members – Atanasio Monserratte and Anil Salgaoncar.

Monserratte is the lone legislator of United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) while Salgaoncar is an independent legislator, who has given his support to the GDA.
