Valencia (Spain), Oct 28 (IANS): Spanish football club Levante on Wednesday announced the appointment of coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, commonly known as Rubi, until the end of season to replace Lucas Alcaraz, who was sacked on Sunday after 0-4 defeat against Real Sociedad during a La Liga clash here.
Levante said on their official website that Rubi will lead the team for the rest of the season with an option to extend his contract for a further two years, Efe reported.
Rubi will debut on Saturday in the city derby against Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.
The 45-year-old led Real Valladolid last season, when his team was beaten to promotion to the First Division league by Las Palmas.
Levante are in the last place of the La Liga standings, with just six points after nine games.
