1. Journal bags RBI Award: Mangala a quarterly Hindi magazine of Corporation Bank has bagged the prize for the year 2005-06 held undet the All India Inter-Bank Hindi Journal competition instituted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The award was given away by the RBI governor Y V Reddy in a glittering function held at Mumbai here recently. This is the fifth year in a row that Mangala has won the award. In spite of stiff competition the magazine which contains articles in Hindi covering varied topics written by the bank staff, has won the award.
Corporation bank has maintained the quality of the magazine and had infact improved on the same by bringing in new ideas with regard to contents, stated a press release.
2. CME on oral problems held: A CME programme on ‘Oral Malignancies and their Management’ was held by the Yenepoya Medical College Dept of ENT in the college premises.
The guest speaker on the occasion was prof of ENT at Kolar Devraj Urs College, Dr Azeem Mohiyuddin and the president was secretary of Islamic Academy of Education Dr Akhter Hussain stated a press release.
Head of the department Dr Deviprasad, prof Dr Gangadhar Somayaji, principal of the college Dr R N Sujeer, principal of Yenepoya Dental College Dr B H Sripathi Rao and others were present on the occasion. There were around fifty delegates participating in the programme.
3. PhD awarded: Seetaram Shettigar, Associate prof and head of Dept. of Physics of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, has been selected for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in physics by the Mangalore University for this thesis entitled ‘Studies on Nonlinear Optical Properties of Some Doped Polymers’.
Shettigar worked under the guidance of NITK Suratkal Physics department head Dr G Umesh and chairman of Mangalore University’s department of studies in physics, late P Mohan Rao.
4. Release of ‘Muraliya Nadava Keli’: Journalist Chidambara Baikampady’s books ‘Muraliya nadava keli’ and Nakshatra balli’today at 2 pm in Government Training College, Balmatta, Mangalore.
