Mangalore, Aug 5: College teachers will stage a rally on September 2 in Bangalore, to draw the attention of the government to certain issues pertaining to higher education and problems of teachers, announced president of teachers association in Karnataka (FUCTAK) A M Narahari here, on Saturday August 5.

Addressing the presspersons, he observed that the government is under the impression that opening of new colleges will by itself solve all problems related to higher education. But he felt that while promoting the government colleges, it should not neglect aided private colleges.

Narahari further rued the fact that although the teachers had put forth 15 demands before the government, none of the issues had been solved till date. He regretted the fact that while Governement is planning to promote government-run colleges but since 1986 it has not provided grants to any aided private colleges.

Narahari criticized the recommendations with regard to higher education by the National Knowledge Commission. It has failed to understand the basic concept of higher education, he claimed.

He also criticized the report given by the industrialists that they were only focusing on promotion of industries and not on higher education.
