Toyota to provide 55 green cars for India Africa Summit

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS): Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Saturday said that it would provide nearly 55 Camry hybrid green cars for transporting dignitaries during the third India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) Oct 26-29 that is likely to see heads of state and government from most of the continent's 54 countries attending.

“Last month, during his visit to India, our chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This meeting initiated our support to the 3rd India African Summit and we are glad to take this association forward," N. Raja, senior vice-president and director, sales and marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), India, said.

"India is oriented towards pollution control and our environment-friendly technology is in sync with this vision of the country. Strong hybrid vehicles can truly have a positive impact only if they are widely used and it is ToyotaÂ’s endeavor to educate and encourage the use of strong hybrid vehicles in India," he added.

Raja also said that the Camry Hybrid cars are the first such to be locally manufactured.

German car major Mercedes Benz had earlier said it had leased 55 E-class luxury sedans to the external affairs ministry for use during the IAFS and other such events.
