Udupi: Truck driver succumbs to injuries in accident involving another truck

Udupi, Oct 24: After a truck carrying LPG cylinders got involved with an accident with a Canter truck coming from the opposite direction, the driver of the truck carrying the cylinders died on the spot. The accident occurred near the Kinnimulky welcome arch in the city on Thursday October 22.

The driver who lost his life in this accident has been identified as Nagaraj (40) from Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. Ravi, a resident of Mannayakana Halli in Humnabad taluk, Bidar district, who was riding the Canter truck, suffered serious injuries.

Ravi was driving the truck towards Goa from Mangaluru. When his truck reached near the welcome arch in the city, a truck carrying gas cylinders hit his vehicle. This resulted in the instant death of Nagaraj, while Ravi suffered injuries to his face, head, legs, and hands. He stands admitted into the district hospital here as in-patient.

Initially, the police blocked traffic from both directions, for fear of gas leakage. In course of time, they realized that the LPG cylinders were empty, after which the trucks were moved aside, and other vehicles were allowed to resume journey
