Kasaragod, Jul 31: The recent developments have signified a bright future for Tulu language. Even Kerala state has also decided to launch an Academy in this regard. The sources confirmed that, the Academy will come into being on September 3.
Kasaragod was part of undivided South Kanara (now Dakshina Kannada0 district under Madras Presidency until its merger with Kerala in 1956
Chief minister V S Achutanandan will inaugurate the Academy during the Tulu Mahotsava which would be held at Hosangady on that day. Over 20 thousand people are likely to attend the Mahotsava. State cultural minister M A Baby will preside over the programme, sources confirmed.
The Academy will temporarily begin its activities in Govinda Pai College at Manjeshwar. The Kerala government has earmarked Rs 20 lac for the Academy in the current budget while there are plans to construct a separate building for the Academy.
The government has already formed rules and regulations for the Academy. Narayan Rao, deputy block education officer of Manjeshwar has been appointed as special officer of the Academy.
The names of Tulu scholar Venkataraja Punichittaya, retired professors Dr K Kamalaksha and P N Mudittaya are under consideration for the post of Academy president, by the government, sources added.
