Belagavi, Oct 20: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) organized a mega Education Hackfest at its Jnana Sangama campus to help the engineering students to unleash their coding skills.
Over 400 young engineering students aiming to become future programmers, developers and entrepreneurs participated in the Education Hackfest 2015, in which Talentspear joined hands with VTU to showcase their skills and learn Hackathon in 24 hours.
The event was sponsored by Prima Web Inc.
VTU Vice-Chancellor Dr H Maheshappa said the University was proud to provide curriculum oriented courses as it had a bigger role to play in the skill and talent development of the nation.
“We strongly believe in the power of technology to facilitate the growth and solve the mass challenges in the growth story of young India,’’ he said and mentioned that VTU was very excited to create an event that continues our long-standing commitment to support and groom talents.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship movement and host this showcase of innovation at VTU, ‘’ he said.
Vivek Pawar, Founder of Sankalp Semiconductor, said “Events like these are the need of the hour, students learn fundamentals and theory in their classes and have no platform to apply those learnings. I hope all the objectives of Hackfest that are awareness about Hackathon culture, hands-on experience of latest technology, learning new skills, knowledge sharing, going through the hiring process, having fun, and winning grand prizes are achieved”.
Dr K E Prakash, VTU Registrar, who presided over the inaugural function, said he was happy with the thought of Talentspear to bring the Hackathon to VTU students.
He asserted that they have to be passionate and have to choose the right path and accept success and failures in life. In order to become a successful entrepreneur and programmer, he shared six mantras that will lead them to greater heights; Vision, Managing Skills, Courageous, Dreaming, Excellence and Perfection.
This Hackfest had the theme ‘Future of Indian Education’ with a motive to expose the student community towards applying the Programming and Entrepreneurship skills in the development of innovative solutions to future education system.
The event started with a team building and brainstorming sessions on Mind Mapping and Design Thinking. 3-5 students in each team collaborated to build software in web/mobile technologies. Workshops, Mentoring, Tech Talks kept the students focused.
Professionals from Philips Research Labs, Siemens, Cisco, Novell and many more companies were present.
Chief Co-ordinator of Education Hackfest Nayaz Ahmed, Fellow and Industry Expert at VTU said, “This event marks first in many aspects, this is the first Hackathon at VTU, first Mega Hackfest in Belagavi and first 24 hour Hackathon in tier two cities. It is this kind of practical exposure to students which will create Smart Cities and Make in India a reality.”
