Kasargod, Oct 20: “People in Kerala will not give room to communal elements. BJP is trying to open its account by polarizing everyone by all means,” said Oommen Chandy, chief minister of Kerala.
The chief minister, who had come to Kasargod for promotion of local elections, was speaking in the face to face with the local people held at the Press Club on Monday.
“The people in Kerala have been rejecting the CPM. There is no place for murders and violence here. Development and peaceful life is important for the people. Techniques to destabilize the Congress government by creating controversies will not be successful here. People have supported the Lok Sabha and several assembly bye elections after the last assembly elections. Help from all is necessary to retain secular power,” he said.
“Cow slaughter is not the subject of elections in Kerala. It is left to individuals. It is not right to insult, assault, or threaten a person for his food habits. It is the responsibility of each individual to ensure that powers that topple the secular fabric do not raise their heads,” he said.
Warning the rebel Congress candidates who have stood for elections against the party candidates, he said that this is the last chance for them to retreat. “If not, they will have to face disciplinary action,” he said.
MLA N A Nellikunnu and district Congress president C K Sridharan were present.
