Udupi, Jul 30: Police sub-inspectors were directed to issue First Information Reports (FIRS) to the people in Kannada by the Superintendent of Police, A Subrahmaneshwar Rao here on Sunday, July 29 at a meeting to prevent atrocities on the Dalits. This meeting was held at the SP's office, with the SP A S Rao presiding over the same.

Rao gave this advice in response to a complaint made by the district convener of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Ambedkar Vada) Jayan Malpe, that some people could not understand the FIR copies as it was in English language. Clarifying on the same Rao said that computer print-outs of FIR were being given till now as Kannada font was yet to be installed. Rao promised that henceforth, handwritten FIRs in Kannada would be made available against the specific demand.

Police Officers in the district had to compulsorily register all complaints as per the standing instructions given. And they need not wait for his intervention in that regard, informed Rao.
