Mangalore, Jul 29: The mass distribution of DEC tablets as part of the nation-wide anti-Filaria campaign has achieved 56 per cent target, on its launching day on Saturday July 28.

On the first day of the anti-Filaria campaign, heavy rains had affected the target area partially. In spite of this hurdle, the distribution programme reached the level of around 56 percent of the actual target.

The campaign was inaugurated under the aegis of the district health and family welfare department at the district government Wenlock Hospital in the city.  District health officer Dr Jagannath said that the rest of the area would be covered in the following two days.

The campaign was launched by deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao and zilla panchayat president Sushma Janaradhan with the symbolic intake of DEC tablet, and by distributing the same to the general public.

To carry out the anti-Filaria mission, requisite tablets are being distributed in the city, Bantwal and Puttur taluks having a population of 14,59,444. Trained health workers, anganwadi teachers and members of NGO, 4,950 workers and 484 supervisors are visiting a total of 2,91,620 houses. A total of 37,50,000 tablets are being distributed during the campaign. The district has got Rs 7.68 lac to carry out the anti-Filaria mission for the present year.

District health officer (DHO) Dr Jagannath, regional deputy director (Mysore zone) of the campaign Dr B L Krishnaswamy and ZP chief executive officer A M Kunjappa were present on this occasion.
