Mangalore, Jul 29: From now onwards additional containerized cargo will be handled by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), stated a press release here.
By adding reach stacker and paved stack area for stacking purpose at the port, NMPT is now gearing itself up to handle additional cargo.
According to the press release from traffic manager, S. Gopalakrishna, New Mangalore Port Trust, a 104-tonne capacity hitech mobile crane has been installed and a well paved stack yard measuring 40,000 sq. ft. is getting ready.
The second reach stacker would be provided at the earliest, added the press release.
There is tremendous demand for seasonal sea food, which is exported from the West Coast region. In order to fulfill this requirement, additional 86 reefer plug points would be provided at the stack yard. Moreover NMPT has taken steps to ensure zero waiting time at anchorage. The Port is even offering a concession of 25 per cent on port-related charges, stated the press release.
NMPT had recently organized a trade meet at Bangalore, where exporters/importers of commodities such as coffee, cashew, garments, reefer, plywood, granite, tyres, leather goods, and container main line operators were present.
