Udupi, Jul 28: MP Manorama Madhwaraj has urged the Union government to open a full fledged passport office in Mangalore.

Addressing the mediapersons here on Friday she said Mangalore is the fast developing city in Karnataka, and it has a major port and iswell connected with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other parts of the Gulf by air.

She said that city needs a full-fledged passport office instead of the existing collection centre. This centre would cater to the people of eight districts and as there had to be a minimum of 50,000 applications from any area to set up a passport office.

Maorama said as of now the city receives 56,000 applications annually.

It really hurts very hard for the people of Dakshina Kannada & Udupi that always injustice has been made to us. Whenever a genuine proposal is put in front of the state govt from our side first thing it will be rejected or delayed by 20 years. Hope our politicians at least will wake up now and fight unitedly for the development of the region

It is a well thought demand and the timing raised as we have International flights also from Mangalore. Big thanks for our MP Mrs Manorama Madhwaraj. Mangalore deserves to have this facility as many people around Mangalore and Udupi will be benefitted.

It is a fact and have the history that majority of the people from here will try to go abroad for Higher studies , employment or to spend some time with their children or reltives. People like our Union Labour Minister Shri Oscar Fernandes and others can give a push in this regard. And when there is a passport office available then the number of applicants automatically increase in multifolds. Good luck.
