Udupi, Jul 22: “Advocates are the main obstacle for the development of judiciary. It seems as if the advocates have forgotten the role of judiciary in a democratic set-up,” noted Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph inaugurating the JMFC and 3rd additional court in the Udupi Court Complex on Saturday.
He said that for the development of judiciary, it must have basic infrastructure. If a plan of building a spacious court complex in outskirts of the city is proposed, advocates are the ones who create problems. If juciary and the legal system must be strong the mindset of the advocates must change.
“Judicial system is here for the people but the advocates have built a mindset that the legal system is for their own development and benefit. This attitude must change and the advocates must think about the overall development of the society,” Justice Joseph added and said that advocates had played a vital role in the national freedom struggle but unfortunately the advocates of present generation are seen enouraging violence in the society.
He said that the younger generation of advocates must try to imbibe the values and ethics of the senior advocates, only then a complete judicial set up can be formed.
Legal Services Authority State President Gopala Gowda, District Judge K N Phaneendra and others were present at the programme.
