Mangalore, Jul 19: P Jayashankar Rai DGM, Mangalore Chemical and Fertilisers (MCF) delivered a talk on "Changing mindset and managing changes" at St Aloysius College premises organized by National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) Mangalore chapter here on Wednesday, July 18.
Speaking on the occasion Rai stated that "Mindset plays a vital role in everyone’s life. Professionally, an individual can excell and scale greater heights with the right kind of mindset” Hence he said that mindset has to undergo change for the good and at the same time these changes must be managed well. This is in itself an important quality that managers must possess, he added.
Rai enumerated three major qualities that the companies look for in a candidate before recruiting them viz, right knowledge, right skills and right attitude. And out of these three, in he felt that the right attitude decides on the productivity of the candidate, which comes from and reflects his mindset.
Mindset according to Rai may be defined as an impression that a person makes in his mind about individuals, objects, situation, events and issues. It then influences his behaviour and determines the kind of things he chooses and his approach to a particular situation.
Elabourating on it he said that while values are long-lasting, mindset are formed by experiences and can be changed when incidents contrary to the set notion occurs.
Further he added "A mindset of an individual depends on the incidents that he has gone through. More likely it is said to be have formed between 8 years to 14 years of age."
NIPM Mangalore chapter Secretary K Sebastian and others were also present on the occasion.
