Mangalore July 17: Public is loosing its faith in the democracy owing to corruption and lack of honesty,  said lokayukta N Santhosh Hegde at the auditorium of Corporation Bank Officers Union, here.

Speaking at the Balasubrahmanya Memorial lecture programme he said that corruption has been ‘beyond the differences of caste and religion’, and fighting against it is futile.

It has become a common belief that the eradication of corruption is entrusted only to the government and lokayukta, he added.

Officers are bribed by common people as they want to speed up their work, he said and opined that everyone must be ready to face the delay if he or she wants to uproot the social evil.

Eradication of corruption is the need of the day as it affects economy of our country, foreign exchange, investment, and grants, he said.

T R Bhat, president of corporation bank officers’ union and D N Prakash, chief secretary were present on the occasion.

I do not agree with the views of mr santosh in totality. Bringing in more transperancy by setting in SLAs (service level agreements) on services offerred by govt and heavy penalty with computerization of things can bring down corruption to a great extent wihout public having to wait - get delayed and thus inconvenienced

How can we eradicate Corruption in India. It is next to Impossible. It is a disease (Worth than HIV ) which has been created by the Politicians and the Beauraucrats. There are so many Highly Learned People in this Country, have any of them Come forward to eradicate this Corruption. Nobody and No One is there.

Just as there are political Parties who fight Election to be an MP or MLA is the same is it not possible to form a Political Party in all the States that does not contest election but fight against Corruption. We have completed 60 years of Independence and I can see that in these 60 years more people have died to fight for their Rights than those who have died for our Freedom.
