Mangalore, Jul 15: Encounter is not the solution to Naxalite menace in the state, pointed out former Karnataka Lok Ayukta Justice Venkatachala to the government here, on Friday, July 13. He was speaking to mediapersons here.
Justice Venkatachala opined that poverty and pessimism is the root cause for the rise of Naxalism in the state. The government should study these two problems with a positive attitude and try to change the mind set of the youth who have gone wayward.
Efforts should be made by the government to bring such youths to the mainstream society and thereby help them to come out of poverty and be optimistic in life. Justice Venkatachala also advocated changes to be carried out at the grass root level in order to eliminate the menace of Naxalite anti social activity in the state.
Further he averred that the Naxalites may have taken up arms due to financial, social, and employment related problems. Hence the effort of the government should be to solve these issues. Still if they continue to do so, then they should be considered as law breakers and be punished.
Referring to other states like Kerala and West Bengal which are free from Naxalite menace, this was in large measures due to proper education and employment opportunities in the state, said Justice Venkatachala.
