Udupi, Jul 15: In the world of insecurity at sea, there is good news for the fisherfolk who spend nearly 70 per cent of their life on water, at the tip of the death bed. There are products to be given, which will now give them a sense of security. Yes, that is the life-jacket and lifebuoy.
The life jacket will protect one’s life, whereas a lifebuoy will protect in all four persons. At any point in time, these two life savers will aid fishermen when they are in danger. This life-buoy has been imported from China at the cost of Rs 1,600 per lifebuoy. The lifebuoy which is about three feet in diameter and reflects at night is made of fibre and chemical matter.
A programme to distribute these life jackets and life-buoys to those fisher folk owning motor boats will be held on Sunday at Malpe. It is understood that this is a record in the history of fishermen that a total of 464 lifebuoys will be distributed to the fishermen by the Motor Boats Fishermen’s Primary Co-operative Society (MBFPCS). At the same time Karnataka Fishermen’s Development Committee (KFDC) too, will distribute around 100 lifebuoys to the fishermen.
In the Malpe port, fishermen owning a total of 2000 motor boats are counted including Parsin deep sea motor boat. For whom nearly 6000 life jackets or life-buoys are required, whereas in Udupi and DK districts nearly 16,000 fishermen need life protection.
