Mangalore, Jul 12: BSNL employees on Wednesday July 11, went on a total strike demanding immediate action from the authorities for the purchase of mobile equipments.

In this regard, all the telephone help lines were shut down. The telecom office with all the employees irrespective of their cadres and unions assembled in front of the office and vociferously shouted slogans ‘Save India, Save BSNL’ .

According to the protesters, no effort was being made by the concerned officers to either purchase the mobile equipments nor are any efforts made to upgrade the technology used. With the high level of competition being faced from private companies using highly modern equipments, a tender of 45.5 million mobile expansions had been finalized way back in October 2006; however the purchase order for this has not been released till today. 

Now the world is talking about 3G and 4G, but the BSNL authorities are still insisting on 2G technology which will deprive customers from enjoying the benefits of facilities like simultaneous voice and data, high speed inter net services, video enabled WiMAX and hosts of services which only 3G can offer, stated the press release. 

PRO of the department S M Hegde said that for the first time all the unions of BSNL employees have united for a cause that is for the satisfaction of the customers. He also said that if this demand of theirs is not fulfilled, then the unions will go on an indefinite nation-wide strike. 

Office bearers of all the unions were also present on the occasion.
