Mangalore, Jul 12: Public Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has sought an enquiry into the encounter killing of five people including a Naxalite at Mensasinadadya in Koppa taluk on Tuesdasy July 10.
Dakshina Kannada unit president of PUCL, P B D’Sa stated in a press release that the police were taking great liberties in matters of encounter killings and the state government as of date had lost control over them.
D’ Sa said that the statements of the police and that of the Home Minister M P Prakash made on the floor of the assembly were contradictory and it had to be clarified by the government.
Making a reference to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) guidelines, he said a first information report (FIR) should have been immediately registered at the jurisdictional police station.
A public protest meet was called by the PUCL on Thursday, July 12 in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
