Mangalore, Jul 10: A school-boy fell into a cess-pit and choked to death at Kuntikan near A J Hospital in Kuntikan at 5-30 pm on Monday, July 9.
Mohan, said to be of around 14 years, was playing with another child near his house located in the vicinity of the KSRTC depot, Kuntikan. He happened to stand on the granite slab of a cess-pit. Just then, the slab broke and gave in and the boy slipped into the pit.
The child ran and informed the elders. The fire brigade was informed at once and the boy was pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital, but he could not be saved. He was declared to have died of asphyxiation, said hospital sources. He was studying in Std IX at Padua High School in the city.
A case has been registered in the Urwa police station.
