Panaji, Sep 10 (TOI): Dattaram 'Damu' Gaude, a peon working in the transport department, who was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe, has revealed before the judicial magistrate first class, Panaji, the name of a senior officer from the transport department on whose behalf he had demanded the bribe.
Anti-corruption branch (ACB) on Wednesday recorded his statement under Section 164 of CrPC before the magistrate.
ACB of the directorate of vigilance had arrested Gaude for demanding a bribe of 1 lakh from assistant motor vehicle inspector Alister Fernandes to close a departmental inquiry against Fernandes.
Last week, ACB had quizzed transport director Arun Desai in the case. Desai was questioned for nearly an hour and an ACB officer said that Desai was interrogated to verify whether he has any role in the case.
