Panaji, Jul 1: Vehicles parked in the city in violation of traffic and parking rules and norms used to be towed away by the police all these years.
Now a system of wheel clamp lock has been introduced by the traffic police. Without making their presence much felt - as would happen if the towing vehicle arrives on the spot - they would lock the wheels of the vehicles parked against rules.
But, while many citizens are happy with the system since it will discourage violations, there is also a disadvantage. The car will be found locked in the No Parking zone by the owner or driver only when he comes back to the spot. Then he has to approach the police station of the jurisdiction. He signs challan or court notice or pay fine in cash. Then only a cop will come to car to unlock the clamp on the wheel.
In all this process, the car will be stationary in the No Parking area causing traffic problems or obstructions to pedestrians. This has made the citizens wonder if it is all worth.
