Mangaluru: Man accused of serial thefts, torching shop, apprehended

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Police personnel attached to Ullal police station here have succeeded in arresting Faraaz (21), who has been accused of committing serial thefts in shops located at Konaje besides torching a hardware shop. Faraaz faces over ten cases including the above.

Faraaz is said to be a member of a gang which went on a stealing spree in Konaje here sometime back. When the gang tried to burgle a hardware shop, a fire had got ignited inside the shop and it was gutted, resulting in loss of about Rs 60 lac to its owner. Faraaz already has been named as accused in about five cases registered in Konaje police station, which include thefts. He also faces two cases in Suratkal police station. In Ullal station, he has been named as accused in over three cases including theft at Joyland, murder attempt, and theft.

The operation to find the whereabouts of the accused was launched by a team comprising Ullal police inspector, Pavitra Teja, as well as sub-inspectors, Bharati and Rajendra, under the guidance and directions of city police commissioner, Murugan, deputy commissioners of police, Shantaraj and Sanjeev Patil, and assistant commissioner of police, Kalyan Shetty.
