Baku, Sep 5 (IANS): The first FIP Arena Polo European Championship kicked off in Baku at Elite Horse and Polo Club on Friday, the media reported.
The championship running from September 4 to 12 involves 72 participants representing teams from Azerbaijan, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Spain, Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.
The tournament has been organised by the World Polo in association with Azerbaijan's Equestrian Federation, ARAF Elite Horse & Polo Club and Polo Club Bina.
During the tournament participants will compete at indoor sand and outdoor grass venues.
The championship will feature 18 highly competitive matches. Each participating team consist of three players and two substitutes.
The Federation of International Polo (FIP) commissioned the organization of the 1st FIP Arena Polo European Championship to Azerbaijan in December, 2014.
