Mangalore, Jun 25: A protest was staged by the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) at the central railway station here on Sunday June 24 urging the early resumption of the passenger train from the city to the state capital.
The protest began with a rally by the members from Kadri park to the railway station where they set up a ‘Laloo Market’ and began selling fish, fruits and vegetables.
Addressing the protestors, Vedike president Shashidar Shetty said that the Vedike will intensify its protest across the state if the train Mangalore-Bangalore train service does not begin within a month.
Apart from flaying the government for delaying the resumption of the train, they also placed several other demands such as widening the Shiradi Ghat road, use of Kannada boards and nameplates in government and private schools, colleges and offices, hoisting of Kannada flag in educational institutions on Kannada Rajyotsava and merging of Kasargod with Karnataka.
