Mangalore, Jun 24: Six Mechanical Engineering students of St Joseph Engineering College here have developed a hovercraft or an ACV (air cushioned vehicle).
One really desires to have a vehicle that moves on water, earth and even in the air, because everyone wants it multipurpose to be independent. But the students of St Joseph Engineering College have developed a havercraft that moves on road and on water. If you knew that a hovercraft that works one would really say that it would be a fantasy but the students of this college have turned it in to reality.
Their names are Ripson Daniel Miranda, Mohammed Sameer, Tapan Jayaprakash and Denson Steven D'Souza.
The machine moves on both ground and water. This is achieved by using two fans; the front fan is powered by an engine which pushes the air below and lifts the machine off the ground. While the rear fan powered by a separate engine moves the vehicle forward, the front fan fills the air in the skirting below the base of the hovercraft.
Once the air pressure increases the vehicle automatically lifted a little higher and moved ahead being powered by the rear fan.
The students have reportedly spent around Rs 25,000 to build this hovercraft.
