Sarajevo, (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Aug 28 (IANS): Asian bronze medallist Ankus (38 kg) has bagged the silver medal at the Cadet World Wrestling Championship here.
In the final on Thursday, Ankus lost to Japan's Miu Shimizu 1-11 but secured the first medal for India in the ongoing championship.
"It always feel good when we win medals for our country but my target was to get the gold. I am little disappointed but that's part of life. I have to work more to live up to the expectations of the people for all future tournaments," said Ankus.
Congratulating Ankus, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said: "I would like to congratulate Ankus for her achievement. Our wrestlers have worked really hard and now it is paying off. I would like to congratulate our support staff and coaches without whom this medal wouldn't have been possible."
Ankus' journey to the final was really aggressive as she defeated Zelfira Alakbarli of Azerbaijan through an impressive display of techniques and speed to win 8-2 and proceed to the semi-final.
She then faced Cansu Yilmaz of Turkey. This time also Ankus was on top as Censu didn't have any reply to Ankus' aggression and speed. As a result, Ankus won her bouts easily and defeated Cansu 13-2 (Technical Fall).
In the final, Miu, who had already defeated Ankus in the Asian Cadet Championship final in New Delhi earlier this year, succeeded once again.
