Kundapur, Jun 21: Following rains and thunderstorm, sea has turned violent throughout the coastal belt.  But situation at Maravante which is situated along the National Highway 17 is still worse.  As usual raging waves are threatening to wash away the highway.

Moreover, entry to the port of Gangolli is completely under danger, as the sea at the confluence of Maravante near here has turned violent. The huge mounds of sands formed overnight by the violent waves of the sea at the entry.

The huge pieces of rocks and boulders which had been laid along the shore were found being swallowed by the roaring sea. The difficult task of removing the silt at the confluence had been stopped for the past twenty-five years.

As a result the movement of country boats was hazardous. To add to it the sea erosion along the coast has become a nagging problem to the fishermen and a challenge to the government.
